How often should I have my sofa cleaned?

Sofa Cleaning

Regular upholstery cleanings are a great way to keep your beloved furniture clean, healthy and looking fresh. Did you know that, on average, the dirtiest piece of furniture in your home is your couch? Makes sense when you think about how much use it gets. All those spillages, dust and grime and unlike your carpet, its probably not something you ever consider vacuuming.

Children

Do you have young children that are running around outside and then back inside the house? Chances are if you do have children then that's a yes! And not just the carpets, children have a habit of finding fun on the sofa, jumping around and ultimately sitting down with their shoes on. Those sippy cups never seem to stay completely sealed, small beakers always sit on the arm of a sofa and, of course, every once in a while one of those crayons or markers has its way of falling off the page and leaving a perfect mark on your couch!

Pets

Are there pets in your home? Nothing soils up a sofa quite like a dog, especially when he sleeps in that one spot for at least an hour every day! Does your cat like to perch himself up on the top edge of the back cushions? Or spread out across your 3-seater? For an hour? Perhaps all day! All of the hair and body oils from your beloved, furry friends will accumulate over time and soil your couch.

Kids and pets will without a doubt create soiling on your favourite furniture. Couches also attract soiling by collecting dust. In your home, dust is moved all around (along with cooking oils and other air contaminants) and deposited on your carpet, your floors, and of course, your couch.

You may also notice that certain spots on the couch get more use than others. For example, the armrests might look more soiled than the rest of the couch because we tend to have our forearms resting on those spots, consistently depositing body oils which accumulate and can make a couch look dirty and grubby. You might also notice a similar pattern where our legs rest alongside the front of the couch. This area also accumulates body oils, especially in the warmer months when we are not wearing trousers. Lighter-coloured upholstery will, naturally, show this dirt and grime more prominent and quicker than darker-coloured fabrics but trust us, it's still there.

Regular upholstery cleaning

So, how often should you have your couch, sofas and upholstery professionally cleaned? Well, we recommend that it's ideal to have your couch professionally cleaned every 6 to 12 months. This interval of cleaning means your couch will be fresh, clean and durable. When you have the upholstery on our couch cleaned, it removes soils that, over time, will degrade the couch's fibres. Regular cleanings are a good way of not only cleaning and improving the visual appearance of your upholstery but also helping to prolong the life of your upholstery.

If you have unique soiling or heavy soiling (like those mentioned above), you might want to get your couch professionally cleaned every 6 months to keep it fresh!
